How it works
Email is pre-configured
Email alerts are enabled by default on every PingWatchdog account. Your account email address automatically receives alerts. No setup needed: create a monitor and email alerts are active.
Add additional email recipients
Go to Alert Channels in your dashboard and click Add Channel. Select Email. Enter the email address that should receive alerts. You can add as many email addresses as your plan allows.
Assign to monitors
Edit any monitor and add email channels under Alert Channels. Each monitor can send alerts to different email addresses. Production monitors can alert the full team while staging monitors alert only the lead developer.
What alerts you will get
You will get three types of email alerts: down notifications when a monitor fails, up notifications when it recovers, and daily summary digests showing all monitor activity from the past 24 hours. Each alert includes the monitor name, the error type, a timestamp, and a direct link to your PingWatchdog dashboard.
Setup guide
- Step 1: Email alerts are already enabled. Create a monitor and alerts go to your account email by default.
- Step 2: To add more recipients: Alert Channels > Add Channel > Email. Enter additional email addresses.
- Step 3: Edit your monitors and add the email channels you need. Each monitor can have its own email recipients.
- Step 4: Optional: set up email filters to route alerts into a dedicated folder or apply labels based on monitor name or severity.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a limit on email recipients?
On the Free plan you can add up to 3 email alert channels. The Solo plan ($12/mo) supports 5 email channels. The Team plan ($29/mo) supports 20 email channels. Each channel can have its own recipient address.
Can I customize the email alert format?
Email alerts use a fixed format optimized for deliverability and quick scanning: monitor name, status change, error type, timestamp, and dashboard link. Custom email templates are on the roadmap. For fully custom notifications, use the webhook integration.
Do you send a daily digest email?
Yes. In addition to immediate alerts, PingWatchdog sends a daily summary email showing all monitor activity from the past 24 hours: how many monitors were up, any incidents that occurred, and your overall uptime percentage. This is configurable per account.
