PingWatchdog + Slack: Uptime Alerts in Slack
Get downtime alerts right where your team already works. Every down, up, and degraded notification goes straight to a Slack channel of your choice.
Send PingWatchdog uptime alerts to Slack. Get notified in your team channel the moment a monitor fails. Set up in 2 minutes. Free plan included.
How it works
Connect your Slack workspace
In your PingWatchdog dashboard, go to Alert Channels and click Add Channel. Select Slack from the list of integrations. Click Connect to Slack and authorize PingWatchdog to post messages to your workspace.
Choose a channel
Pick which Slack channel should receive alerts. You can create a dedicated #alerts channel or use an existing one. Each monitor can send alerts to different channels, so production alerts go to #ops while staging alerts go to #dev.
Assign to monitors
Edit any monitor and add your new Slack channel under Alert Channels. You can add multiple channels. Each channel can have its own alert rules: immediate on first failure, or delayed after 3 consecutive failures to reduce noise.
What alerts you will get
You will get three types of alerts in Slack: down notifications when a monitor fails, up notifications when it recovers, and degraded performance warnings when response times spike. Each alert includes the monitor name, the error type, and a link to your PingWatchdog dashboard for details.
Setup guide
- Step 1: Go to Alert Channels in your PingWatchdog dashboard and click Add Channel.
- Step 2: Select Slack, then click Connect to Slack. Authorize the PingWatchdog app.
- Step 3: Choose which Slack channel receives alerts. Create a dedicated #alerts channel if you do not already have one.
- Step 4: Edit your monitors and add the Slack channel under Alert Channels. You are done. Next time a monitor goes down, your team sees it in Slack.
Frequently asked questions
Can I send alerts to multiple Slack channels?
Yes. Create a separate alert channel for each Slack channel you want to use. Then assign the right channel to each monitor. Production monitors can alert #ops-critical while staging monitors alert #dev-alerts.
Do alerts include details about the failure?
Yes. Each Slack alert includes the monitor name, the endpoint URL, the type of failure (timeout, HTTP error code, DNS failure), the probe region that detected it, and a direct link to the incident in your PingWatchdog dashboard.
Can I customize the alert messages?
Alert messages use a fixed format for reliability: monitor name, status change, error type, and timestamp. Customizable alert templates are on the roadmap. For fully custom messages, use our webhook integration.
