How it works
Create a Discord webhook
In your Discord server, go to Server Settings, then Integrations, then Webhooks. Click New Webhook, give it a name like PingWatchdog Alerts, and choose the channel that should receive alerts. Copy the webhook URL.
Add the webhook to PingWatchdog
In your PingWatchdog dashboard, go to Alert Channels and click Add Channel. Select Webhooks. Paste the Discord webhook URL and give the channel a name like Discord Alerts.
Assign to monitors
Edit any monitor and add your Discord alert channel. You can add multiple channels per monitor. Configure alert thresholds to reduce noise: fire on the 3rd consecutive failure instead of the 1st.
What alerts you will get
You will get three types of alerts in Discord: down notifications when a monitor fails, up notifications when it recovers, and degraded performance warnings when response times spike. Each alert includes the monitor name, the error type, and a link to your PingWatchdog dashboard for details.
Setup guide
- Step 1: In Discord: Server Settings > Integrations > Webhooks > New Webhook. Name it, choose a channel, and copy the webhook URL.
- Step 2: In PingWatchdog: Alert Channels > Add Channel > Webhooks. Paste the Discord webhook URL.
- Step 3: Edit your monitors and add the Discord channel under Alert Channels.
- Step 4: Test it: use the Test button on your alert channel to send a test message to Discord. You are all set.
Frequently asked questions
Can I send alerts to multiple Discord channels?
Yes. Create a separate webhook for each Discord channel, then add each as a separate alert channel in PingWatchdog. Assign channels to monitors based on severity or team.
Do Discord alerts use embeds?
PingWatchdog sends plain text alerts to Discord via webhook. Rich embed support with color-coded status indicators (red for down, green for up, yellow for degraded) is on the roadmap.
What information is in each alert?
Each alert includes the monitor name, the endpoint URL, the type of failure, the probe region, and a link to your PingWatchdog incident dashboard for full details and timeline.
