PingWatchdog + Telegram: Uptime Alerts in Telegram
Get lightning-fast uptime alerts in Telegram. Every down, up, and degraded notification hits your Telegram chat the moment it happens.
Send PingWatchdog uptime alerts to Telegram. Get notified in your group or channel the moment a monitor fails. Set up in 2 minutes. Free plan included.
How it works
Create a Telegram bot
Open Telegram and message @BotFather. Send /newbot, give your bot a name and username. BotFather will reply with an API token. Copy this token. Then add the bot to your group or channel and send at least one message to activate it.
Get your chat ID
Send a message to your bot, then visit https://api.telegram.org/bot<YOUR_TOKEN>/getUpdates in your browser. The response includes a chat ID. Copy this ID.
Configure in PingWatchdog
In your PingWatchdog dashboard, go to Alert Channels and click Add Channel. Select Telegram. Enter your bot token and chat ID. Test the connection to verify alerts arrive.
What alerts you will get
You will get three types of alerts in Telegram: down notifications when a monitor fails, up notifications when it recovers, and degraded performance warnings when response times spike. Each alert includes the monitor name, the error type, and a link to your PingWatchdog dashboard.
Setup guide
- Step 1: Message @BotFather on Telegram: /newbot, pick a name and username, and copy the API token.
- Step 2: Add the bot to your Telegram group or channel, then send a test message. Get the chat ID from the getUpdates API endpoint.
- Step 3: In PingWatchdog: Alert Channels > Add Channel > Telegram. Enter your bot token and chat ID.
- Step 4: Test the connection, then edit your monitors and add the Telegram channel. You are done.
Frequently asked questions
Can I send alerts to multiple Telegram groups?
Yes. Create additional Telegram bots or reuse the same bot in multiple groups. Add each bot+chatID combination as a separate alert channel in PingWatchdog.
Do Telegram alerts support Markdown formatting?
Currently, PingWatchdog sends plain-text alerts to Telegram. Rich MarkdownV2 formatting with bold monitor names and clickable dashboard links is on the roadmap.
Is there a limit on how many alerts my bot can send?
Telegram limits bots to about 20 messages per second in the same chat. For normal monitoring, this is far more than you will ever need. If you have hundreds of monitors going down simultaneously, alerts will queue and deliver sequentially.
