How it works

Get your Pushover User Key

Download the Pushover app on your phone and create an account. Go to pushover.net, log in, and find your User Key on the dashboard. Copy this key.

Create a Pushover application

On pushover.net, go to Your Applications and click Create an Application. Name it PingWatchdog. Copy the API Token/Key that Pushover generates.

Configure in PingWatchdog

In your PingWatchdog dashboard, go to Alert Channels and click Add Channel. Select Pushover. Enter your User Key and API Token. Test the connection.

What alerts you will get

When a monitor goes down, you get an instant push notification on your phone via Pushover. The notification includes the monitor name, what went wrong, and a link to your PingWatchdog dashboard. When the monitor recovers, you get an all-clear notification.

Frequently asked questions

Can I send alerts to multiple team members?

Pushover's multi-user delivery requires a Teams or Enterprise plan. On the free plan, each user needs their own User Key. Add each as a separate alert channel in PingWatchdog, or use a group delivery service key on paid Pushover plans.

Do Pushover alerts work when my phone is in Do Not Disturb mode?

Pushover respects your device settings. You can configure Pushover to override Do Not Disturb for high-priority alerts. In Pushover, set the notification priority to Emergency to bypass quiet hours for critical alerts.

Is Pushover better than email for alerts?

Push notifications typically arrive faster than email and are harder to miss. Pushover is designed specifically for alert delivery, making it more reliable than email for time-sensitive notifications. Many teams use both: Pushover for urgent alerts, email for daily summaries.
