PingWatchdog + PagerDuty: Uptime Alerts via PagerDuty
Route PingWatchdog alerts through PagerDuty for on-call scheduling, escalation policies, and incident management at scale.
Send PingWatchdog uptime alerts to PagerDuty. Trigger on-call notifications, manage escalations, and track incidents. Set up in 2 minutes. Free plan included.
How it works
Create a PagerDuty service
In PagerDuty, go to Services and click New Service. Give it a name like PingWatchdog Monitoring. Under Integration Type, select Use our API directly or Events API v2. Copy the Integration Key.
Add the integration in PingWatchdog
In your PingWatchdog dashboard, go to Alert Channels and click Add Channel. Select PagerDuty. Paste the Integration Key and name the channel.
Assign to monitors
Edit any monitor and add your PagerDuty channel. Configure alert thresholds: fire immediately for production-critical monitors, or after multiple failures for lower-priority services.
What alerts you will get
When a monitor goes down, PingWatchdog sends an event to PagerDuty. PagerDuty creates an incident, triggers your on-call rotation, and follows the escalation policy you have configured. When the monitor recovers, PingWatchdog sends a resolve event and the incident auto-closes.
Setup guide
- Step 1: In PagerDuty: Services > New Service. Name it, select Events API v2, and copy the Integration Key.
- Step 2: In PingWatchdog: Alert Channels > Add Channel > PagerDuty. Paste the Integration Key.
- Step 3: Configure your escalation policy in PagerDuty: who gets paged first, who gets escalated after 5 minutes, and who gets notified after hours.
- Step 4: Edit your monitors and add the PagerDuty channel. Test the integration by triggering a test alert from PingWatchdog.
Frequently asked questions
Does PingWatchdog auto-resolve PagerDuty incidents?
Yes. When a monitor that triggered a PagerDuty incident recovers, PingWatchdog sends a resolve event. The incident status updates automatically in PagerDuty. No manual resolution needed.
Can I use PingWatchdog with PagerDuty on-call schedules?
Yes. PagerDuty handles all on-call scheduling. PingWatchdog just sends events. When a monitor goes down and triggers a PagerDuty incident, PagerDuty follows your configured on-call rotation and escalation policies.
What level of PagerDuty plan do I need?
PagerDuty's free plan supports the Events API and up to 5 users. This works with PingWatchdog. For advanced features like custom escalation policies and on-call scheduling with multiple rotations, you need a paid PagerDuty plan.
