How it works
Create a webhook in Google Chat
In Google Chat, go to the space where you want alerts. Click the space name, select Apps and integrations, then click Add webhooks. Give the webhook a name and copy the URL.
Add the webhook to PingWatchdog
In your PingWatchdog dashboard, go to Alert Channels and click Add Channel. Select Webhooks. Paste the Google Chat webhook URL and name the channel Google Chat Alerts.
Assign to monitors
Edit any monitor and add your Google Chat alert channel. You can add multiple channels per monitor. Use alert thresholds to control how quickly alerts fire: immediately for critical services, delayed for low-priority monitors.
What alerts you will get
You will get three types of alerts in Google Chat: down notifications when a monitor fails, up notifications when it recovers, and degraded performance warnings when response times spike. Each alert includes the monitor name, the error type, and a link to your PingWatchdog dashboard.
Setup guide
- Step 1: In Google Chat: Space > Apps and integrations > Add webhooks. Name it and copy the URL.
- Step 2: In PingWatchdog: Alert Channels > Add Channel > Webhooks. Paste the Google Chat webhook URL.
- Step 3: Edit your monitors and add the Google Chat channel under Alert Channels.
- Step 4: Test it with the Test button. Your team now gets alerts directly in Google Chat.

Yes. Create a webhook for each Google Chat space, then add each as a separate alert channel in PingWatchdog. Assign spaces to different monitors based on team or severity.
What format do the alert messages use?
PingWatchdog sends text-based alert messages to Google Chat via webhook. The message includes monitor name, status change, error type, timestamp, and a link to your PingWatchdog dashboard.
Can I use alerts with Google Workspace groups?
Yes. If your Google Chat space is linked to a Google Group, any member of that group will see the alerts. This is handled by Google Chat, not PingWatchdog: just create the webhook in the right space.
